Good high capacity scale
I've been using this to weigh buckets of scrap metal, and I've checked it's reliability using a 1lb jar of peanut butter and it seems to be sound. My complaints are that the ridges on top make it harder to place certain large odd shaped items on the scale, such as a Rubbermaid tub with a grooved bottom. This wouldn't be as annoying if the ridges served an apparently useful purpose, but so far as I know they don't. Also, if you remove an item from the scale quickly the dial whirls very quickly back past the zero point and gets stuck to the right of the zero point somewhere, requiring me to zero it again, which is made even more irritating by the fact that it's very hard to get the measuring line exactly at the zero mark, it always wants to be at least a quarter pound to the right or left it seems. On that note the lock tab is useful when transporting the scale (I get to avoid zeroing it again.) or measuring large items that cover the dial. But once again, upon releasing the lock tab the dial flees back to the zero mark and ends up to the right of it again, grrr. The only way to avoid this is to press on the scale with my hand and allow the tension to slowly go back to zero. This isn't a big deal, but this isn't a cheap scale, so I'm loathe to put up with inconveniences like these. All in all a good and so far reliable scale (had it just a couple of weeks) with a few annoying quirks.

Old school and Just what I needed
Works perfectly for me.For those that complain about having to zero every time before use... it is not a digital meter. Humidity and, especially temperature, will affect calibration from day to day. Also, verify zero before each use as mechanical devices are not perfect. If you want that may I suggest you purchase a digital meter and have at it.This one does exactly what it is designed to do and does it very well. I have been using this model for a few decades and bought a new one ONLY because I left my 9-5 and needed one for my home business.

Definitely a good buy.
Although a bit larger than I expected, for just under $55 it definitely was a good choice for my daily shipping needs. This scale is functional, durable, portable and goes up to 250 lbs. It is very solidly built. The lock down tab is great for those boxes too large to read the numbers while resting on it. It adjusts back to zero easily, but doesn't move from zero much at all, even when often moving it to different locations in the building . I really am happy with it with one BIG exception. The fine print description (from Shopping.com) stated "made in USA" which was my deciding factor on to go with this model. The last 2 lines on actual manufacturer's label says: "Distributed by Dymo, Stamford CT2009 Stamford C.T. made to our exact specifications in China "My ultimate mission was as long as I had to make a new purchase, that I would buy "Made in the USA". NOT happy about that.

DYMO Mechanical Shipping Scale by Pelouze, 250 lb.
The DYMO Mechanical Shipping Scale by Pelouze (250 lb) is easy to use.It is also a sturdy scale. I recommend it as a good alternative to a digital scale.I like the feature of being able to lock in the weight on the scale, so it is not necessary to write down the weight. So far, I am happy with the product.

Great Shipping Scale
I used a scale like this for years (10+) in a manufacturing business. Everyone in the place used it for weighing packages, blocks of steel and themselves! I couldn't wait to get one for my small business when I opened up my own UPS account. Digital scales look nice but unless you buy a really expensive one it probably won't last. You can also store this thing until you need it. It's durable and would take a lot to break it. No batteries or electricity either!Amazon had the best price too, some places wanted over $100! Shop around folks!

does the job
i'm in the air freight business, all packages must be weighed before place on the aircraft. they are calibrated once a year. and most always they make calibration and go another year. if they fail they replaced, it would cost more to fix then to replace. other that that does a good job. i'll buy same again.

Works for like 2 months
At first everything was fine, but around after 2 months it didn't show the precise weight, more weight more difference it shows less weight and it doesn't work correctly anymore.
