An upgrade that is motivating to play more often! We were playing with basic game board but this set up is a classy upgrade! It is nice having the numerics and letters!

I picked up this 15" magnetic wooden chess set mainly for casual play and travel, and overall it does the job reasonably well for the price. The board is a good full size, and the pieces have a decent weight, which gives a satisfying feel during play. The magnets are strong enough to keep pieces steady when moving the board gently from room to room, which is convenient for a portable set. The storage insert holds everything securely, and the latches seem sturdy enough to keep the board closed during transport. That said, there are a few downsides. Upon unpacking, I noticed some minor blemishes on the board surface, and scratches on the sides of the board... possibly from abrasion or pressure during packaging. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it does reveal some lapses in quality control. Also, the knight pieces have misaligned nostrils... just a small detail, but it suggests less attention was paid to finishing the pieces perfectly. Another concern is the metal latches on one side of the case; they tend to pull towards the closed position even when open, which means if you set the board down carelessly, the latches could scratch your table. I’d be cautious about placing it on delicate surfaces without something underneath. In summary, this set won’t impress those seeking top-tier craftsmanship, but it’s a functional, affordable option for beginners or casual players who want a portable chess set.

Excellent value, with wood pieces and wood board, with quality molded storage. Good size compromise for easy storage and travel. I have a larger board but this one is easier to take out, take anywhere, and store. Given is largely hand crafted and from natural materials has minor irregularities but to it just adds to it beauty and confirms is made of natural materials. It comes with board notation for those just learning. If you just have enough money to buy one wood set, get this one and no less.

Good board but everything have a film of plastic over it if you’re looking for a set that feels like wood this isn’t it. Also there was a hair burned into the board so everytime I slide a piece over that I can feel it.

My son is still very much into chess and has been collecting different boards. He was especially excited about this one as it is magnetic and he did not have one like that prior to this. The board itself is very nice. It's made out of wood and very smooth- looks sleek. It comes labeled so experienced users can track moves easily. The board folds up nice and isn't super heavy even with all the pieces inside. The pieces do fit securely inside the board and area well protected. The magnetic feature works well for regular game play as it helps to prevent you from accidentally knocking over/ moving any other pieces... but you certainly cannot tip the board over like in the listing pics. If you do that, the pieces all slide down. It truly is a beautiful board and worth the price, but the magnetic aspect of it could be better. We don't plan to play chess while trying to defy gravity but still.

This is a decent quality starter chess set. The case and chess pieces are made of wood, and the inside of the case houses all of the pieces in foam cutouts to keep them secure. Pros: - Magnets in the pieces create a positive connection to the board - The pieces have some weight to them (possibly due to the magnets embedded in them), and this gives them a feeling of quality - The wood case feels nice Cons: - The only issue I have noticed is that the case/board does not sit fully flat when it's opened and in the "playing" position with the board facing upward. This causes the seam between the two halves of the board to not quite close fully. This appears to be caused by the hinges on the back side protruding from the bottom of the case when it's laid flat. Overall, I'm happy with the product and I really like the magnetic pieces.
