If you're new to the world of effects or even a seasoned player looking to fill in the gaps, this is a solid reference to have on your shelf or, better yet, in your gig bag.

An excellent history about all kind of guitar effects and the guitar masters that made them famous. Everything from Jimi Hendrix's Wha Wha pedal that made Foxy Lady and Purple Haze Rock and Roll classics, to David Gilmour and the Electric Mistress which gave that spacey sound that made Pink Floyd's the Wall so iconic. One of my favorite's is the Talk Box used by Joe Walsh and later by Bon Jovi on It's My Life. Great book if you are into guitars and legendary guitarist.

This is a really good resource for choosing gear, based on the type of musician you are. This is chock-full of interesting history of pedals, amps, effects, strings, picks, etc., and which artists and musical genres have favoured them. This is a big book, assembled with lots of love and passion for music. The 'Part 2' book shows you how to use them, and that is also a must-have!

As a banjo picker that also owns a 'schecter' to play the occasional favourite riff, I've always found the huge array of effects peddles available a tad daunting to get into, so I got this book, and boy does it go into it! So much so that it's almost impossible to scratch the surface here in a review, I| mean, there's even a chapter on popular picks through the years, the why's and wherefore's. An excellent book of effects peddle discovery, and well worth a look.

Bought this out of curiosity. The breakdown of signal chains and how artists like Prince layered effects might change how I process my electronic tracks. The tech insights are worth it.

If you love experimenting with sound or simply want to understand what all those pedals on your board actually do, this book is pure gold.
