Awesome bed for a guest room in a vacation condo
I am very impressed with this bed! It arrived amazingly well-packed on its own pallet with lots of padding, cardboard, plastic and tape. There are a few manufacturing dings in it (to give it that rustic lived-in look - that's it!), but nothing that can't be marked over with one of those furniture magic markers. It's very sturdy, with my 140 lbs. clamoring all over the mattresses and the frame (i suggest using bare feet and remembering your balance beam routines) to get bedding on. Yes, making it is a chore, but that's true of all bunk beds that are pushed into a corner, giving you access from only one side. As for comfort, that's all in the mattress. I sprung for good ones and my guests say it sleeps as well as any free-standing bed would. So all in all, i'm thrilled with this bed. It's the perfect addition to the guest room in our mountain condo, to give us flexibility for guest sleeping arrangements. I don't think i'd put this in our full-time house, given the workout it is to get bedding on and off every week. But for a vacation place, it's just perfect. And you can't beat the price, with free delivery, all the way up in the mountains!!

The bed itself is super awesome and will work in exactly the way you would expect it to. However the ladder it came with did give out with very little effort, when it did, it scraped the top bunk as the metal hinge bent and toppled over with my roommate on it. His ribs totally cushioned his fall as he toppled over the ladder and onto my foot.Other than that incident, we removed the latter. The bed itself is surprisingly solid and the finish on it is really nice until you destroy it when the ladder gives under your fat ass. It will look nice in about any room you put it in, it really is a solid piece of furniture.Remember boys and girls, read the weight limit! (which could have been better but when the price is right....)

Cheap soft wood and very poor company to work with.
I purchased this bed from the seller Furniture of America. It was broken on arrival. The box had a slight dent in it, so I looked at it before it was unloaded. The shipping company returned it, and about a month later Furniture of America sent out another bed. This time the box was in perfect condition. I opened it up and the bed was damaged to the point it was unusable. It was clear that the bed was in this shape when it was packaged up to be shipped. I told the shipper he needed to take it back. He refused. He told me that Furniture of America is selling scratch and dent products and making the shipping company pay for the item if the customer catches it before it is unloaded. He wouldn't take the item back because the packaging was in perfect condition.I contacted Furniture of America and told them the story. They offered me a 15% discount. I said that was not acceptable because the bed couldn't be used. They then offered me a 20% discount and said I might be able to find someone who can repair the damaged item for the money saved. I said that wasn't acceptable. They then said I could return it, but I would have to pay the shipping. I called around and it would cost between $500 and $1200 to return it because I don't have a corporate account. Needless to say, the shipping price would likely to exceed the return price.Fortunately, Amazon is a great company to deal with. They were able to recover the money and are investigating the fraudulent actions of Furniture of America.

I ordered the nice twin mattress that Amazon suggested at the bottom of ...
So...I'm giving this two stars, mostly so people will know what they are getting before they order. I wish I had done more homework. This is really an EXTRA-LONG TWIN over Queen Bunk Bed. Do NOT order a regular twin mattress for this. It will be 4-5 inches too short, and a child could be seriously hurt or die slipping through/getting caught in the space between the mattress and the frame of the top bunk.I ordered the nice twin mattress that Amazon suggested at the bottom of the page when I ordered this bed. And it is a very nice mattress, but it is totally useless to us because it is the wrong length, and we now have to get an extra-long twin mattress to fit this bed safely. Thanks, Amazon! Couldn't you have just made that very CLEAR in the description???To add insult to injury:The bed came with a large UGLY yellow sticker "permanently" affixed to the frame (that said "Do Not Remove!") The sticker said "Use only mattress which is 74-75 "long on the upper bunk." This is INCORRECT. The mattress needed for this bed must be 79-80 " long. It takes well over an hour of constant scraping using Goo-Gone to get this incorrect sticker off the "Dark Walnut finish" of the bed that most people choose because they want something that looks like nice furniture, rather than an institutional look. And, BTW, "Dark Walnut Finish" shows every little ding really well. And there's even another permanent yellow sticker stuck to the ladder as well... I took a picture of the incorrect sticker before I scraped off all the tiny bits. Not sure when I will feel up to scraping the one off the ladder. (At least it is probably factually correct, after reading the review of the fellow whose bunkmate fell on him...) Weight limit on the top bunk and for the ladder is a mere 150 lbs.So, this could work nicely for tall, slender people. The quality of the wood appears to be pine, so it definitely gives the feel that it will break. The bottom bunk takes a regular queen mattress. This is NOT an easy bed to change the sheets on. So if you aren't up to a lot of climbing, you may want something else. And don't forget, you can't climb the ladder to change the sheets if you are over 150 lbs. (Good motivation for me to stay in shape!)I learned my lesson. Showrooming or buying local is a much smarter way to buy something like this. While Amazon had the best price, I wish I had been able to try it out before I bought it, because now I am stuck with it.

Beds are OK quality and pretty easy to assemble
Bed arrived within estimated shipping time. Beds are OK quality and pretty easy to assemble. All needed parts were included. My biggest disappointment is that there are several "dings" in the wood, either from construction or shipping.
