There is no dark side of the room, really. As a matter of fact it's *all* dark.
I was fortunate enough to get these at a superb clearance price of about $6 per panel, and at that price I couldn't be happier. They'd be well worth it at 3x the cost.I bought 8 of the chocolate curtains to cover 2 windows - 1 very large picture window and 1 average sized window. In using hem tape to mate 3 panels together for each half of the picture window, I found the process a bit more difficult than I expected due to the thickness of the material - it is a pretty heavy corduroy with white rubberized light blocker backing. Nevertheless, I managed ok even with my mediocre skills, and they have come together nicely enough.Of course everyone wants to hear about the light blocking capacity of the curtains. I mostly bought these to replace the original curtains on the picture window that I felt let just a bit too much light pass through at night, so nosy neighbors could see inside if they were really determined to do so. The Beautyrests have put a complete stop to that - they are absolutely opaque. In the daytime inside the room, no light at all seeps through the curtains themselves (of course some can reflect around the edges, but that's physics' fault, not the curtains). In fact, if I had to complain, I'd say these curtains are *too* darkening - the room used to have a soft glow to it with the old curtains closed, but now it's practically pitch black in there. Suffice it to say the Beautyrests live up to their advertised function.Other reviews seem critical of the curtains' ability to stand up to a wash. I wasn't willing to take that risk, but I will say that they stood up just fine to the aggressive high-heat ironing I did to pull out the packaging creases, so no worries there. They've only been on my windows for 2 days, so this may not be a lingering issue, but the unpleasant plastic/rubber outgassing smell other reviewers have noted *is* present in my house due to these. It doesn't smell too bad, though, and I feel sure that in a few days it'll dissipate altogether. If not, my guess is with the eventual return of Spring and open windows, that'll take care of it.I also find it nice that the headers feature both rod pockets and back tabs, giving you two different and equally attractive hanging options, which you don't often get with comparatively cheap curtains/drapes.So far I have no complaints about these at all - and I'm the kind of guy who can usually find something to complain about with anything. The curtains are heavy, fairly stylish, *very* effective at room-darkening/light blocking, and reasonably priced. I recommend them.

Great, well made, and inexpensive curtains that block (most) light and sound
These are great inexpensive curtains that block most of the light and reduce noise. When I converted the kids' "playroom" upstairs to my home office, I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but I needed some curtains to hopefully block some noise from outside and just to make the area look a little nicer. The biggest thing was I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg, but 108" curtains are hard to come by... and when you find them they're often $50-100 PER PANEL.I found these inexpensive curtains on Amazon and was pretty skeptical that they would be very nice at the price... but was very pleasantly surprised. I got the Sangria color and they are very close to the detail photo on Amazon. I'm very happy with the color, material, and thickness of the curtains. I'm most happy about saving a ton of money on a room very few people will ever be in but me.The ONLY issue with these is that they came pretty wrinkled and I don't have a steamer (yet). I just hung them as-is. They're fine for what I need, but when I find a good garment steamer on sale I'll definitely try to remove the creases from being folded in a package. Other curtains I've bought before have lost most of their wrinkles just from hanging for a while, but these are still pretty wrinkled.Overall, if you're looking for inexpensive curtains that block (most) light and sound, look no further. These are a great choice.

Blackout curtains ... YES!!! However...
Ok so i am going to try an be as clear as i possibly can so that readers can get the best out of this.I live in the Caribbean and every morning i wake up with the sun shining directly into my eyes. These curtains were exactly what i needed. The sunlight that woke me up every morning is no more. This curtain actually does assist with heat loss because i have felt a considerable difference in the temperature of my room since installing them (i.e. my room is a considerably warmer now).I have not yet washed these to see if there are any issues as noted by other reviewers, i will be making an update as soon as i do.These do nothing in reducing noise as far as i can tell, however this is not a problem for me.The Smell that some reviewers have complained about i did not have.as one reviewer mentioned these curtains are not the length as advertised they are actually 3 inches shorter i personally do not like my curtains touching the floor so this was not an issue for me but it was still a little false advertising the sellers behalf. The material seems good and i loved the color and texture.I will update this review as soon as i have washed these. i am giving it 4 stars because of the non noise reducing capabilities as well as it being shorter than advertised. i may purchase more depending on how these hold up after washing but as of now i think it is a great buy.Update 15th Feb 2017The smell that some reviewers complained about i finally encountered. This is due to the thermal lining on the curtains heating up. To date i am yet to find a way to eliminate thus smell.Second flaw.Once the thermal backing heats up it tends to stick together. i believe a reviewer posted pics of this. Placing these in a dryer is a no no.These curtains themselves are if great quality however because of all the defects with the thermal lining i will not advise anyone to purchase these.Originally i gave it 4 stars and niw its 2

Pros- darkens- I liked the design and colorCons- no diff in noise- not an insulator (though it's not really specified)Thoughts- weird to sell it in singles when it should be sold as a double
