Is this a good game for adults

It is. My wife and I play it often. It is light hearted but the strategy of when to help another or when to help yourself is what makes the game. I have played the game with 50 or so different people and 90% of those are adults that love the game. I hope that helps!

Would Bohnanza be a good game to play while traveling by automobile, or does it require a card table?

No it needs a table to play, but its a blast to play . My family have fun with this game every day

Is this a good game to play just by two people? Or just like most games, is it better with 3 or more people?

Th two player variant adds a mechanic that makes this a completely different game. It's just as (if not more) fun as the original. One major change is that you have to keep an eye on the discard pile, since tossing out certain beans may swing the entire market in a different direction. This is a really cool variant that changes strategies from the regular game. I've played with 2, 3, 4, and 5 players and it's engaging on all of those player counts...!

Would a 6-year-old understand and enjoy this game?

I have played with an 8 year old (a bright one) and I found that though the rules are understandable and make sense, the strategic thinking required for playing the game well are not easily grasped.
