The most durable school shoes and we've ever had and we've tried them all!
My 8 year old daughter has been wearing this one pair of shoes (in black leather) to school every day for 7 hours a day for four months and I am pleased to report that these are by far the most durable of all the school shoes we've tried. I typically buy nicer shoes for school (i.e. Pediped, Jumping Jacks, etc.) The playground at our school has pea gravel and these are the only shoes that have held up. Every pair of shoes we've tried gets terribly scuffed across the toes, some of them on the first wear. I don't know how this shoe does it, but they still look pristine after all this time! They often get dusty from the playground, but a simple wipe down is all it takes and they're good to go. My only complaint is that the strings along the Mary Jane strap tend to fray or have little strings that have to be cut or burned off from time to time. Again, we've had much more expensive shoes that did this far worse. These shoes have a nice, cushy foot bed and they fit my daughter's trim feet very well. I would not hesitate to purchase these again. In fact, this will be the shoe I'll be buying next year when she outgrows this pair. I'm very picky and want my kids' shoes to look nice every time they put them on and these shoes have been incredible. Buy them. You won't regret it.

So far so good!
I read the reviews before I purchased this shoe and am glad to say they didn't disappoint. At the start of the school year I had purchased 2 paris of Stride Rite shoes but still needed a brown pair of "mary janes". I found these on Amazon. Now I wished I purched ALL my daughter's shoes from School Issue. These prodigy shoes are fantastic. After only one wearing of Stride Rite shoes, the toe area is completely scuffed. The next day, I had my daughter wear the Prodigy shoes. Not one toe scuff. It looks great. I feel good about these shoes and I feel they will last. They are sturdy and solid. I plan to reurn the Stride Rite ones and purchase these in black and navy. Great shoes!UPDATE: 7/21/2014: It's one year later and I wanted to give an update. I am ordering these shoes again for the upcoming school year but I did want to say, I wouldn't have to order them again if my daughter hadn't grown out of them. I ended up ordering black and navy as well as the brown ones at the start of school last year. They held up so very well. The toes are hardly scuffed at all. If only I could get her foot to stop growing, she'd could probably wear these another entire year.

Replacement for same shoes with defect
My granddaughter really likes the fit of these shoes. She has wide feet and other shoes which came in wide width were still too narrow for her. With the first pair, after wearing three times a week to school (the other 2 days she has to wear gym shoes), the leather loop holding the metal piece for the strap to go through broke. The school called and we had to rush over and bring another pair of shoes right away as she couldn't close the shoe and walk around. This was the first time ever any shoe I have purchased had this problem. Luckily the merchant agreed that this shouldn't have happened and gave a refund. I was really hesitant to buy another pair of the same shoes. However, after trying several other options, with nothing fitting the child comfortably I purchased another pair. The shoes look strong and sturdy so I really hope there is no further problem and the defect with the first pair was an isolated case. Otherwise I give these shoes a 5 star rating for appearance and fit.

Best girls uniform shoe there is!
They might be a bit more pricey than you would normally spend on a kids shoe however they are worth every dollar and then some. My daughter wears these shoes to her school as part of her schooll uniform. At first I was put off at the price. But I found the best thing about these shoes is that they wear VERY WELL. Uber comfy, supportive shoes made with high quality sole, comfortable/soft inside lining, and the leather is the best. Hence the price! They looked brand new when she grew out of first pair after 7 months. Didn't even flinch when buying the 2nd pair today!

well constructed
Seems well made, bit we'll see how they hold up. Only had for a few weeks and not used for daily wear.Very impressed at the sturdiness of the strap, much better designed, wider than most.

Cracked and scuffed after only one day's wear.
We ordered these shoes on August 3rd based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews and they were promptly delivered three days later. Our daughter wore them to school on September 10th. and returned home with them in a deplorable condition.According to the product specs the upper part of the shoe is supposed to be made out of "rugged leather" however the membrane-thin brown top layer was stripped off like plastic revealing an unsightly dark material underneath.Shoddy, cheap and, at $43 a pop, a definite rip-off. Unfortunately as international customers we are unable to return this product for a refund.Claims from previous reviewers that these shoes are sturdy, long-lasting and scuff-resistant certainly do not pertain to the pair that we received.

These shoes fit my daughter comfortably. She wore them the first day all day ...
These shoes fit my daughter comfortably. She wore them the first day all day with no complaints. The shoes fits with a little room to grow. The quality of the shoe is excellent and very durable. I bought a navy blue pair last year and the shoes lasted and was in great condition until her foot outgrew them at the end of the school year. My daughter is very hard on shoes scuffing most shoes instantly in the toe area but these shoe took her beating and looked great until the end.

Shoe pictured is different from item number listed!
I just ordered these shoes for my daughter. They are part of her school's required uniform. There is a bit of a difference with the item number and the shoe pictured. The shoe pictured and shipped is actually 5120NVC, NOT 5100. Luckily the shoe pictured is shoe her school requires. They run a bit small (I ordered 1/2 a size up from her current size) so I am exchanging them for a larger size. I'll edit my review once we find the right fit. They seem sturdy, and well made. Hopefully they will stand up to her rough play during recess.
