Healthcare Finance: An Introduction to Accounting and Financial Management

To be frank, my brain does not wrap around finance concepts very easily and I am far from a rock star in math. However, I have to say that this textbook does an exceptional job in very clearly presenting finance concepts in a manner that is easy to follow and understand. I also like the way the book was printed with quality paper and it is a convenient size, too. Even though I have finished my finance course, I am going to keep this book in case I need it for future reference during my career.

I am currently enrolled in a class that used this textbook as its main source and I cannot say enough about well written it is. Having struggled through many a textbook during my academic career, reading a book this well written is a breath of fresh air. The concepts covered are crucial for any manager who wants to get into healthcare.

I found Gapenski's 'Healthcare Finance' to be a very good textbook for those who need an introduction to healthcare finance topics. The book covers both managerial and financial accounting and has relatively good explanations about different topics within the individual chapters. One criticism I have is that there is no way to know the answers to the questions in the back of each chapter. Now I know that this book is prepared for undergraduates or graduate students, but as a mid-career graduate student, I just wanted to learn the material and needed answers to the questions to help me get through the concepts. I could find answers nowhere. I realize that instructors have answer books, but I think there should be a way to get the answers if you are using this book to learn, not just to pass a class. All in all, this one is a good book and I would recommend it.

This is the best text book I've ever bought. I am an experienced healthcare executive and found this book to be excellent. Well written. Easy to understand. Great examples. I highly recommend this book if you want to learn about healthcare finance or need a very good reference thereof.

This was purchased for my Healthcare Finance class for my MBA however it was so relevant to my Health Insurance Job that I have kept the book and ordered a few more for my workers. It has wonderful insight into behind the scenes of finance and what the Healthcare side of business is dealing with.

Hard to read.., too technical, too much detail in each chapter. The problems and questions were at times confusing. Too much math that requires previous levels of knowledge without it, the subject is too hard to get through.

This is a handsome book, well crafted, and full of information yet very approachable and easy to engage with. A must have for anyone studying healthcare finance. Not only does it instruct on financial analysis, ratios, statements, etc. - it does a good job at giving context to the big picture and using relevant examples in the lessons.
