A great understanding of all the lenses and why
Any book on photography is good. I enjoy reading about some of lenses in our bag and why we carry so many lenses. I haven't read it all but the information so far is very accurate and I must say it is good reading.

Awesome Lens Book
I've been a photographer for decades. Studied photography in college and miss film & darkroom days… The jump to digital was a challenge, but I enjoy "modern" photography immensely. I purchased this book so I could take full advantage of my camera. The Lens: A Practical Guide…, by NK Guy is easy to read and is packed with useful information. Great photos too! For the beginner just entering photography, or someone looking to invest in lenses, the book explains lenses well and will absolutely help with their selection. For advanced photographers, it's a great refresher course. I shoot a Nikon D4 and own several pro Nikkor lenses. Glad I got the book!

Good survey on lenses
Its an easy read and it covers a broad range of topics. I'd recommend it to serious hobbyists and anyone who wants to learn more about photography. What I got from the book was a greater understanding of the mechanics for creative effects, and to what effect those effects are dependent upon lenses. Additionally i have a better understanding understanding of things I have observed and how to mitigate them, for example like perspective distortion. The book also provides information on the history and nomenclature for a multitude of popular camera lenses and is thus a good reference for understanding and decoding lens model numbers.I feel this book has helped me understand photography.

Perfect for newbies to choose a lens
I was trying to decide which first "good" lens to buy for my Sony NEX-5N camera (which is not as known as the Nikon/Canon etc). I stumbled upon the book and it walked me through from the very basics to the very practical (how to decipher the names of lenses), with plenty of pictures for examples, and a logical analysis as to "which lens for which project." First I had it as a library loan, but decided it was worth buying it.

The Lens by NK GUY
Either very knowledgeable or very well researched Mr. Guy offers one of the best tutorial books I've seen since college. Although most photographers aren't engineers it is important to know what goes into making a quality piece of equipment. One needs to know why one is plunking down a house mortgage payment for a particular lens and how it will play a roll in your particular style of photography. His chapters on the history of lens making alone are worth the price of this book.

Practical and informative
NK Guy has an extremely useful with some easily understood construction of lenses and some simple mathematical explanations.I recommend this book to ANYONE to get a great background when buying a lens.I especially like his warning of the abuse and tactics in the market place.Wish he would have an analysis of some of the upcoming and some of the more realistic priced lenses {[F.E.Tokina 16-28mm f 2.8 or sigma 18-35mm].GREAT book
